Jaclyn
The investor provided the theme: wood. The facades should be fully clad in timber.
Elevations
The investor provided the theme: wood. The facades should be fully clad in timber. Soon, a cheaper solution had to be found instead: a combination of sparingly used composite cladding with timber imprints and matt anthracite stuccowork were employed in the finishing of the outer shell.
Thinking of timber, the authors imagined a pallet of wood planks. The planks are stacked irregularly onto each other. The decision followed to dress the building in a multitude of single-family houses, perched on top of each other. The contents of the block are: an underground floor with parking spaces, a ground floor of shops and garages and nine floors of apartments, ateliers and offices.
The fragmentation of the large-size facades by means of materials and colours makes them look smaller, and the occupants can tell from the outside which their apartment is. The composition of elements is not complete, creating the illusion of movement and continuous development.
Plans
No two apartments in this project are identical. Unification was avoided on purpose in plan and along the vertical line. The requirements of the Territory Planning Act and of the investor did not force the author to make a compromise with the composition. The price? A longer time for considering the solution. The profit? The developer established their name in an elite market niche, the author won several prestigious architectural awards and the owners are proud of their homes. It seems that everybody wins.
Testing the role of social engineers, the designer and the developer, using the image of the building, have programmed a certain social effect and have defined the type of people that would inhabit the apartments. The plan is: irrespectively of their social status, the inhabitants of Jaclyn should fancy the building and therefore would willingly subject to its internal order. The common interest is a powerful prerequisite for a clean and peaceful coexistence..
